What To Do If You Think You'Re Catching The Flu

Health & Medical Blog

Flu season is already upon most areas of the country, so it's important to do what you can to protect yourself from it. However, if you think you're already coming down with symptoms of the flu, it's important to seek help quickly and effectively. Here's what you should do.

Protect Others and Yourself

The first thing to do is to avoid contact with other people as much as possible. If you have sick masks, it's a great idea to wear one. This will help to prevent you from getting other people sick, including those that you live with. However, avoiding contact with others will also protect you from getting a secondary infection while your immune system is busy fighting the flu virus.

Get to Urgent Care

Once you've taken steps to protect yourself and others, it's important to go to urgent care right away.

Unlike a doctor's office, urgent care is designed for people to drop in with problems just like yours. It's run by doctors and nurses, just like a doctor's office, and you can get the quality care that you need in order to recover quickly there.

Ask for Antivirals

While you're at the urgent care facility, you'll be given an examination to determine if you have the flu. If your symptoms match up, ask about antivirals.

Antivirals are a type of medication that are designed to fight viral infections in the same way that antibiotics fight bacterial infections. When it comes to the flu, time is of the essence - getting an antiviral shot can help your body to fight off the flu, but usually only if you get it soon after contracting the illness. And since your body won't immediately start to have symptoms after contracting the flu, it's extremely important that you get help as soon as possible after you do notice symptoms so that the antiviral shot is still effective.

The good news is, an effective dose of an antiviral shot can not only help your body beat the flu virus, but it may help you to get better faster, too.

Having the flu is something that nobody wants to go through, but if you've got it, you've got it. Thankfully, while there's nothing you can do about having the flu, there is something you can do to make it as easy on yourself as possible. Don't ignore your symptoms or follow a 'wait and see' approach. Get to urgent care immediately for the help you need.

Staying in Great Health Requires Exercise

My parents taught me healthy eating habits and I played outside a lot as a kid. Once I was old enough to work, I got a job as a waiter at a restaurant and kept waiting tables throughout high school and college. After college, I got my very first desk job, and my health started declining. I soon realized that even though I had never stepped foot in a gym, I was living a sedentary lifestyle for the first time in my life. I wasn't getting exercise playing outside or running around at work, so I decided to commit to going to the gym. My health began to improve and I now greatly enjoy bodybuilding. I know many other people are in ill health and can't figure out why, so I decided to start a blog to share my health tips and inspire everyone improve their health!
